Summary
How to migrate your MS Windows systems over to GNU/Linux (or FreeBSD, OpenBSD, etc).
Abstract
Now is a good time to consider migrating to an Open-Source platform:
- Microsoft is at the till again hawking a new OS version, and this time they want users sucked into a new and expensive subscription model.
- Linux is getting more stable, distributions better, desktop applications are getting more extensive and mature.
- Security is getting more important, even BillG admits that Microsoft needs to worry about security, and a Linux box is easy to make a lot more secure.
While this talk will most likely focus specifically on targetting GNU/Linux, the migration issues for moving to a BSD platform are largely the same, and all of the applications discussed should be available on both platforms.
